Parish Registers of the "Ev-luth. Kirche Oldenburg"
Church district Vechta
As in the whole so called “Oldenburger Münsterland the Catholic church has
been the dominating church in the Vechta area. While the Neuenkirchen parish
was an old one reaching back to the Münster period, the other parishes were
only founded after the area became a part of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg in
1815. Wulfenau and Fladderlohhausen were small Lutheran strongholds within the
Dinklage and Damme parish respectively. In Goldenstedt there has been a
remarkable Lutheran minority based on the fact that the parish area was once
connected – or at least has been claimed by – with the Grafschaft Diepholz.
From 1650 to 1850 both the Lutherans and Catholics celebrated their services in
one church during the same hours based on a special contract cvalled
“Simultanteum mixtum”.
