Church district Leer

Please note that the reformed church (Evangelisch-reformierte Kirche in Nordwestdeutschland) is the dominating church in the Leer area. (15 Lutheran parishes and 30 reformed parishes) Despite of Leer and Weener itself all inhabitants belonged to the parish were they lived in, undependent of the fact which denomination (confession) they personally belonged to. This was the fact in almost all areas in East Frisia (excluding the cities). In the Rheiderland and the Weener area Bingum, Holtgaste and Pogum were "Lutheran islands" in a reformed region. Logabirum, Hesel, Holtland and Nortmoor east of Leer are located in the neighbourhood of the Potshausen area  which is almost 100% Lutheran. Steenfelde and Völlen are southwestern neighbours of the Potshausen church district.
